Election related Public Holidays in several States of India

Below governments have issued election related holiday declarations:

1. Haryana Government Labour Department vide Notification dated 23-Jun-2023 declared paid holiday to eligible employees of factories and Shops/Commercial establishments in Haryana on 9-Jul-2023 under Section 28 of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958.
2. West Bengal Government Labour Department vide Notification dated 23-Jun-2023 has declared paid holidays on account of elections to be held in on 08-Jul-2023 to all shops, commercial and industrial establishments.

Minimum Wages revision in Goa, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu &Tripura

Goa Commissioner of Labour, vide Order dated 30-May-2023, notified the minimum wages payable to different scheduled employments in Goa effective retrospectively from the date of 01-Apr-2023.

Government of Mizoram vide Notification dated 16-June-2023, notified the minimum wages payable to different scheduled employments in Mizoram effective retrospectively from the date of 01-Apr-2023.

Commissioner of Labour, Chennai vide Notification notified the minimum wages payable to different scheduled employments in Tamil Nadu effective from the date of 01-Apr-2023.

Government of Tripura vide Notification dated 16-Jun-2023 notified the minimum wages payable to different scheduled employments in Mizoram effective retrospectively from the date of 01-Apr-2023.

Amendment of Maharashtra Shops Act

Government of Maharashtra vide Notification dated 27-Jun-2023 amended rule 16(1) of the Maharashtra Shops and establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2018, whereby it is now made optional to publish the shift timings (if any) on the website of the Shop or commercial establishment.

Amendment of Haryana Labour Welfare Fund Act

Government of Haryana vide Notification dated 27-Jun-2023 amended Section 9A of the Punjab Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1965 by increasing the contribution payable by employee from INR 25 to INR 31 per month and contribution payable by employer is increased from INR 50 per month to INR 62 per month.

EPF due date Extension for Higher Pension

Ministry of Labour and Employment vide Press Release dated 26-Jun-2023, extended the due date for filing application for higher pension from 26-Jun-2023 to 11-Jul-2023.

Punjab Shops and Establishment can remain open 365 days

Government of Punjab, Department of Labour vide Notification dated 8-Jun-2023 notified that for a period of one (1) year till 31-May-2024, all establishments registered under the Punjab Shops and Commercial establishments Act, 1958 can remain open all 365 days of the year subject to certain conditions.

ESI new application for MCA registered employers

Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) vide Circular dated 07-Jun-2023, notified that companies registered in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) are directed to declare the status of the company within six month of registration to avoid defaulter action and further continue the option of ‘Inactive’ mode every six months. The employer will not be able to extend after expiry of six months.

Amendment of Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act

Tamil Nadu Government vide Gazette Notification dated 19-May-2023 notified the amendment to the Tamil Nadu Shops and establishments Act, 1947 by addition of new sections 22-B to 22-E by mandating provision of drinking water, latrine, rest room etc.
