Minimum Wages revision in Maharashtra, West Bengal and other States
Maharashtra Government vide Notification dated 01-Feb-2023, notified the minimum wages for ’67 scheduled employments, effective from 01-Jan-2023 till 30-Jun-2023.
West Bengal Government vide Circular dated 16-Jan-2023, notified the minimum wages for 31 scheduled employments, effective from 01-Jan-2023 till 30-Jun-2023.
ESI contribution not payable during ESI Leave
Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Corporation, vide Notification No. 48 S 11 dated 19-Jan-2023, have directed employers and consultants to verify the attendance register to exclude the number of days in the month during which employees are paid ESI leave salary, failing which action will be taken against employer for wrong filing of contribution.
ESI medical facility for new born babies
ESI Corporation, vide Circular No.N-21/14 dated 27-Jan-2023 has intimated that new born babies of insured persons will be included in an integrated portal to facilitate medical facilities for the new born babies.
Online issuance of registration in States
Government of Puducherry vide Order dated 12-Jan-2023 mandated obtaining contract labour licenses only through online mode.
Government of West Bengal vide Notification No.10-FT dated 2-Jan-2023, notified that single window clearance system ‘Silpasathi’ will provide Commercial Taxes services such as registration under West Bengal State Tax on Professions among other Acts.
Government of West Bengal vide Notification No.167/T&CP dated 01-Feb-2023, notified that due to problems in the single window clearance system ‘Silpasathi’ certificate of Enlistment (Trade License) can be obtained from e-District portal w.e.f. 02-Feb-2023.
Holiday List Notification in States
Several States have issued notification for holiday list for 2023, including Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, etc.
News: Central Government is pursuing State Governments for Labour Code Implementation
Per the Economic Times news article dated 27-Dec-2022, Union Labour and Employment Minister is reported to have stated that though the central government has pre-published draft rules, since labour is a concurrent subject, the central government is pursuing state governments and that he hopes that the codes get implemented.
