Minimum Wage Revision in various states
The Government of Gujarat vide Notification dated 3-Apr-2024, notified the revised minimum wages effective from 1-Apr-2024 for all scheduled employments.
The Government of Bihar vide Gazette Notification dated 14-Mar-2024, notified the revised minimum wages effective from 01-Apr 2024 for all scheduled employments.
The Government of Madhya Pradesh vide No. 2024/8621-870 dated 13-Mar-24, published revision of minimum rate of wages for various scheduled employment with effect from 01-Apr-2024.
The Government of Odisha vide Gazette Notification dated 13-Mar-2024, notified the revised minimum wages effective two months after the gazette notification i.e., 13-May-2024 for all scheduled employments.
The Government of Chandigarh vide Gazette Notification dated 06-Mar-2024, notified the revised minimum wages effective from 1-Oct-2023 to 31-Mar-2024 for all scheduled employments.
The Government of Tamil Nadu vide Gazette Notification dated 26-Feb-2024, published minimum wages effective from 01-Apr-2024 to 31-Mar-2025 for all scheduled employments.
The Government of India vide Order dated 01-Mar-2024, published minimum wages effective from 01-Apr-2024 for several scheduled employments such as agriculture, watch & ward, mines, warehouse etc.
The Government of Telangana vide Press Note dated 1-Apr-2024, notified the minimum wages effective from 01-Apr-2024 to 30-Sep-2024 by publishing the consumer price index number for the purpose for calculation of variable dearness allowance.
Labour Welfare amendment in Maharashtra
The Government of Maharashtra vide RNI No. MAHENG / 2009 / 35528 dated 18-Mar-2024, published the Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund (Amendment) Act, 2024. The rate of contribution has been changed for employees as “twenty-five rupees” from the existing INR 6/12. Further, State Government is empowered to change the contribution by a maximum increase of 30% once every three years on recommendation of the Board, and employer contribution will be “thrice the amount of contribution payable by an employee”.
Declaration of paid holiday due to Lok Sabha elections
The Election Commission of India vide circular dated 16-Mar-2024 has issued instructions for declaring paid holiday for all the eligible employees on account of General Elections as per their respective phase wise schedules in the registered Constituencies in the States/UTs. Also, ECI has declared paid holiday due to Bye-election in several states, few of the notifications are as follows:

Notification under the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development (Amendment) Act, 2024
The Government of Karnataka vide Gazette Notification No.181 dated 11-Mar-2024, notified the date of 12-Mar-2024 as the effective date for Kannada Language Comprehensive Development (Amendment) Act, 2024. With the notification, all private establishments in the State of Karnataka are required to ensure below:
- Display of name and designation inside offices in Kannada
- Establish ‘Kannada Teaching Unit’ at every establishment with headcount above 100
- Nameboard to have Kannada in the upper half with 60% display over other language etc.
Conditions For Employing Women Workers During Night in The State Of Haryana and Rajasthan
The Government of Haryana vide No. 11/6/2022-4lab dated 14-Mar-2024, prescribed conditions to factories to claim exemption from employing women in the factory during night shift i.e. between the hours of 07.00 PM to 06.00 AM, in respect of their Safety and Security. Such exemption shall be valid for one year from the issuance of the notification.
The Government of Rajasthan vide Gazette Notification dated 19-Mar-2024, notified an exemption for women to work during night shifts for a period of three (3) years, subject to adequate safety and security arrangements of female employees.
Renewal exemption under Shops and Establishments & other laws in Manipur
The Government of Manipur vide Gazette Notification No.342 dated 13-Mar-2024, notified the Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and License by Establishments) Act, 2024 whereby subject to furnishing of a ‘Self-Certification’ in the form specified in Second Schedule within the month of January every year, renewal of license or registration is exempted. Failure to file ‘Self-Certification’ entails a punishment of fine up to INR 10,000.
Amendment of Maharashtra Tax on Profession Rules
The. Government of Maharashtra vide Gazette Notification No.43 dated 14-Mar-2024, notified the deletion of Rule 32of the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Rules, 1975 pertaining to physical disabilities and mental retardation.
