Correction of Names in EPF Portal
Employees Provident Funds Organization (EPFO) vide Circular dated 07-Dec-2022 categorized name corrections into minor and major category. The minor correction will be completed on the basis of online submission of records while major corrections are corrected after obtaining explanation from employer and verification of documents.
Amendment of Apprenticeship Rules, 1992
Government of India vide Gazette Notification dated 15-Nov-2022 amended the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 by substituting clause 4(a) in Schedule-V, that cost of stipends shall be borne by the Central Government and the employer up to such limits as may be laid down by the Central Government. Presently, stipend up to 25% is reimbursed by the Central Government, which mandates that every establishment with headcount of 30 (including contract workers) is required to hire at least 2.5% of apprentices (subject to a maximum of 10%). Further vide Office Memorandum dated 30-Dec-2022, the Apprenticeship Department has mandated training of optional trade apprentices.
Amendment of Labour Welfare Fund contribution in Tamilnadu
Government of Tamil Nadu vide notification dated 30-Dec-2022, notified that labour wefare fund contribution of Rs.60/- (employee contribution of Rs.20/- and employer contribution of Rs.40/-) is to be remitted by drawing a cheque/demand draft drawn in favour of the Secretary of Labour Welfare Fund and to be remitted on or before 31-Jan-2023.
Minimum Wages and Holiday List Notification in States
Several States have issued notification for holiday list for 2023, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, etc.
Maharashtra Government vide Gazette Notification dated 21-Nov-2022, notified the minimum wages for ‘Engineering Industry’, where the minimum wages for skilled workers is given as INR 16,450 in Zone-I (within 20 kilometres from municipal corporation limits) effective from 21-Nov-2022.
Online generation of license/registration in West Bengal
West Bengal Government vide Notification No.Lab/173 dated 27-Dec-2022 notified the single window clearance system ‘Silpasathi’ to provide license/registration under 13 (thirteen) different labour licenses including Shops Act, Factories Act and Contract Labour Act effective from 01-Jan-2023.
